Judging Books By Their Covers: The Vampires of Finistere
Today in aesthetic central: Frank Frazetta-inspired swimming. Let’s dive in.
The Vampires of Finistere (The Guardians #4) by Peter Saxon
Published: 1970, Berkley
Cover Artist: Jeff Jones
Just looking- There’s something in the water!
What it makes me think – The seventies were great, and the highly stylized art courtesy of Jeff Jones is just another reason why. Erotic. Detached. Intriguing. There’s a lot of Frank Frazetta DNA here. It seems appropriate to listen to some Jean-Michel Jarre and just feel strange. The eyes follow a cross pattern when taking in the two figures not quite entwined. He’s reaching. He’s struggling. He doesn’t want to sink. She’s okay with it all. She’s swimming. She’s ready to dive. Maybe ready to turn? The added verbiage with the title is too busy for my eyes, but I won’t lie: DIABOLICAL CULT and AGES-OLD UNDEAD in all caps grab my attention.
Would I buy it? I was going to write no at first, but the more I look at it, the more I want to read. Yes, but that’s a steep price on the ‘Zon.
